Developing Bulk Export Terminal Capacity

Stockton Soda is developing a cutting-edge dry bulk export terminal in the Port of Stockton, CA. Upon completion, Stockton Soda will manage and operate this state-of-the-art facility, focusing on the exportation of Soda Ash sourced directly from Green River, Wyoming mines.

Stockton Soda Project

An innovative Soda Ash terminal that features cutting-edge infrastructure, including an infinity loop rail yard and a high-capacity dump pit designed to accommodate 193-car trains. The facility's capabilities allow for the quick processing of trains up to 3 km long, carrying up to 19,300 tons of soda ash, with a remarkable 24-hour unloading and release cycle back to the UP rail network.

Located in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, the terminal offers access to the Pacific Ocean via the San Joaquin River - Stockton Deepwater Shipping Channel; it can handle a typical load of 28,000 to 34,000 metric tons per vessel.

Stockton Soda plans to construct a dedicated soda ash storage building to ensure seamless operation during non-coincident rail and vessel schedules, allowing storage before loading onto ocean-going vessels.

The project's first phase includes a dedicated berth with two ship loaders, 135k mt of storage, and the innovative infinity loop rail yard. A second berth and additional storage are planned for phase two. Advanced automation and control technology will be employed to optimize efficiency.

Here's a revised version:

The project's primary objective is to accommodate the anticipated growth in US soda ash production, which is expected to surpass an additional 8 million metric tons by 2030. To optimize export capabilities along the US West Coast, Stockton Soda aspires to efficiently serve the Asia-Pacific market, guaranteeing competitive rates and swift handling of substantial cargo volumes. The terminal's cutting-edge facilities will likely lead to reduced operating costs for its proprietors, ensuring a dependable and consistently available supply chain.

Stockton Soda and the Port of Stockton have received the necessary environmental permits to construct the terminal. Use the following link to obtain a copy of the Project EIS from the Port of Stockton.

What is Soda Ash?

Soda ash is an essential raw material used most frequently in glass manufacturing, as well as detergents, electric car batteries, and other household products. Used in manufacturing for more than 5,000 years, American natural soda ash is derived from Green River, WY in the most significant natural deposit of soda ash in the world.
